Organic Growers Meeting
Wednesday, October 21st, 2009, 7pm-9pm
@ Camilla Room, Harry P. Leu Gardens
1920 Forest Ave, Orlando, FL 32803
BERRIES Shirley Silvasy will be discussing Berries: these perennial gems will provide you with delectable harvests for years to come. Some berries on the agenda: strawberries, elderberries, miracle berries, acai, mulberries, blueberries, raspberries, black berries, and maybe a few you haven't heard of. If you have any growing tips on berries, bring them to the meeting to share. We are also looking for some established plants or cuttings for both the raffle table and to offer for sale.

The organic growers meeting is free and open to anyone interested in organic gardening, organic foods, or products. Arrive early (6:30ish) for socializing & food. After the meeting, the discussion continues til 10p at nearby Ethos Vegan Kitchen.
As always, bring any surplus from your garden to share, treats for the tasting table, and plants and gardening supplies for the raffle table. (Tix $1 each, 6 for $5) We had a record turnout in September with an abundance of raffle items along with some tasty fruits.

Several garden products are on display at our sales table: wormcomposting products, totes & t-shirts @$10, banana plants & pigeon pea plants @$8; along with blueberry, pineapple & papaya plants @ $5. There are often assorted miscellaneous plants also available. Burlap cloth and garden amendments are also available.
Let us know if there are any plants or supplies you would like to buy. That's also where the raffle tickets are sold. $1 each or 6 for $5.

Simple Living Institute, Inc. is hosting a plant and gardening freecycle at Ethos Vegan Kitchen. A "freecycle" is like a free thrift store. You can bring unwanted plants to give away or come and take plants for free. It will be held out on the patio and volunteers will be there to help you get the right plants for your yard. Join us to exchange your extra plants and gardening supplies. Simple Living Institute volunteers will be on hand to offer advice.

Contact Shirley or call 321-228-4310 to volunteer.

The event is from 2pm to 6pm, feel free to come at whatever time is convenient for you but we will not be attending the entire time.

Please note that we will not be meeting as a group this is just an FYI if you would like to get some great heirloom vegetables and plants.

The Green Marketplace in Cocoa will be holding their fall heirloom vegetable plant sale starting Friday, September 4th and ending Tuesday, September 15th.

From their newsletter:
"Shop early for the best selection – when they’re gone, they’re gone! If you read about the plants that we will
have for sale and do your research now, you’ll know which kinds of plants you want and how many before
you come to the marketplace which will make your trip that much simpler!
Individual tomato plants, pepper plants and 4 packs of vegetables other than tomatoes are all $2.00 each.
NEW! This fall we will be offering a small number of 4-packs of tomato plants for those of you wanting
quantity. They will be smaller plants but will sell for $4.00 ($1 per plant). If this is something in demand,
we will offer more next fall."

We will be there bright and early so we can get our veggies home before heading over to the Plant Freecycle event at Ethos at 2pm.

• Sweet Peppers (Buran, Quadratto Asti Giallo, Golden Treasure, Jimmy Nardelo Italian, Purple
