Hi All! It has been brought to my attention (thanks Dean!) that the Leu Gardens is having their annual plant sale March 21st and 22nd. Since the gardens are FREE to the public those two days, we thought it would be a good time to wander through the gardens as a group. They have some nice displays and a nice veggie and butterfly garden. We will meet somewhere within the gardens (I'll update closer to the time period) at 11am to wander as a group and learn from each other. That gives everyone some time before and after to buy your plants! The plant sale itself runs from 9-5 both Saturday and Sunday. Look forward to seeing you all there! Jen and Brian

Hi All! As gardeners, we all know that we don't have enough room in our backyards to grow everything that we would like to. Let's take advantage of some of our local produce and enjoy an hour or so of strawberry picking! As far as I can tell, prices will be ~ $2 a lb. We might check out restaurants in the area before or after, I'll update as the time gets closer. The patch is on Florida Avenue. If coming from State Road 417, get off on the 434 exit and head east, toward Oviedo. Turn north onto DeLeon Street (where 434 takes a sharp curve.) Then take a right on Florida. The patch is on your left.

We'll kick off the first meet-up of the year by exploring a local park. Kraft Azalea gardens in winter park are supposed to be beautiful. The azaleas are supposed to bloom Jan through March, so this should be the perfect time! We will meet up at at 11:30 Virgin Olive Market 822 Clay Street in Winter Park (www.virginolivemark et.com) and get some lunch to take to the park. When you RSVP, please let me know if you will meet us at the Virgin Olives @11:30 or if you will meet us at the park a little bit later on (~12:00). To Kraft Azalea Park from Central Winter Park: Take park ave north past the golf course. Turn right on stoven ave. Stoven merges into palmer ave. Take palmer east about 1/8th of a mile then left on alabama.

November Monthly Meeting!! Dena Wild (Master Gardener) talking/teaching about plant propagation. Some of you who attended the September meeting will remember Dena Wild as the instructor for the "Backyard Organic Gardening" course at the Leu Gardens. She is very knowledgable about organic gardening and has been practicing in her garden for years. However, her specialty is plant propagation. She has agreed to come and speak with our group about propagation and share her knowledge and experience. As some of us have experienced, some plants grow well from seeds but not everything. She will share with us the different techniques of multiplying your garden for your own use, or to share with others. We will meet at Ethos for Lunch at 12:30. Please look for us in the back/outdoor area of the restaurant. We will start Dena's talk after that, most likely around 2pm. Hopefully we can do it at Ethos, but if not we will move it to Gaston Edwards Park across the street. Please let me know in your RSVP if you will be attending both the lunch and the presentation. For those attending just the presentation, I will send you my cell phone number to help you find us if we have moved to the park. I look forward to seeing you all there!

Hi all! One of our members, Dona has invited us into her garden/home for the October meet-up. Thanks Dona!!! Dona will show us around her gardens. She has been gardening at her home for some time, so we look forward to seeing what she is growing! We will also talk about the different classes that some of us attended in September, and chat generally about what's going on in our own gardens. Dona's home is located in Oakland, which is just west of Winter Garden, off of Hwy 50. I will send the address to those who RSVP "Yes" via e-mail a few days before the meet-up. Since we are visiting someone's home, please feel free to bring along a refreshment/snack of some kind for sharing. Finally, since we are visiting someone's home, I am limiting the RSVPs to "yes" or "no", no "maybes", so that we have a firm number on how many people to expect.
